I don’t currently use soap sticks at home but they are my preference when travelling.
Anyway, my main issue is that the majority of sticks aren’t packaged well for travel. For designs like LEA and La Toja, the cover comes off the base too easily. Palmolive, Valobra et al are uncovered and the foil annoys me. DR Harris twist-ups are flimsy.
Better solutions come from Tabac/Sir Irisch Moos and Speick - useful since these are two of the better performers, despite the foil.
My current solution is to DIY it. I took a sturdy deodorant stick with a reliable mechanism to be filled with whatever (relatively firm) soap I fancy. That currently means half a tin of Bufflehead. The shape works well for applying soap to stubble, the container holds up well to travelling, and it’s perfectly refillable (or replaceable). Winner.
