Does sunscreen figure in your routine?

No.. I use my post shave products as usual, let them settle, and then put sunscreen on about half hour before I go out..
Thanks - since the use of post shave products is a relatively new thing for me, I wasn’t sure how to incorporate using them yet slathering on the sunscreen before going out as well. Not to labour the point, I’m unclear whether using a skin product before sunscreen application affects its efficacy - but hey, using something has to be better than nothing

I hear you - picked up a large number of sun related items over the years and been told by medics to keep them covered or slather sunscreen on when going out. For me, it’s been a mixture of using both approaches.
100% the way to do it. I also try to stay out of the sun as much as possible between 10am and 4pm in summer. It isnt always fun, but as you know, the alternative is much worse! Here's to clear skin checks going forward! 🍻

As a teen I lived at Beach soaking up ray, surfing, and we did not have wet suits. Sunscreen was not invented, and if it was not in budget.
Oddly enough, as kids we lived not far from the beach, so it was a regular thing just going down there and playing around in only swimshorts.
Less enlightened times and definitely no sunscreen. Sunburn was a thing you had, then a pink zinc based lotion was slathered on us and we turned from being pink and pasty into tanned. The lotion was calamine - for some strange reason I can still remember its peculiar medicinal smell.

I remember as a kid falling in a patch of nettles and having calamine slapped all over me as I stood in front of an old gas fire butt naked. Found out years later that stuff was flammable!

It got mainly used for sunburn in our house. Other goodies from the 80s included germolene and the mother of all TCP. Haven't found an aftershave yet that stings like that 🙄

So many similarities between your products and ours. It’s amazing how the smell of these things has the ability to make us think of different times. I don’t have Calamine lotion in the house - painful memories of blistered sunburnt skin, but I do have TCP. Love the smell. Another liquid that stung and was used on me with great regularity was IODINE - now that was for the big jobs.

@JamieM & @Twelvefret - I find that whatever product I’m using, eventually gets on the neckline of whatever tops I wear and they’re then toast. They seem to be permanently stained with the stuff - it eventually yellows with machine washing and it’s a bit of a pain.

I understand. When I swim or know I am going to be out in the sun I wear synthetic tops like Under Armor and have never experienced staining from sunscreen. I also like to wear very thin long sleeve and turtle neck shirts.

That’s my mistake - most of my stuff is cotton and seems to be easily stained with sunscreen. But I have bought a synthetic rash vest for swimming.

I love cotton but not for activates unless it's mowing wear I can change easily into something dry.

Tacvasen is the brand I bought from Amazon for a synthetic top with quarter zip. It has held up well. The old Body Armor in indestructible. I've probably used it for 15 years and no stains.
