Back to the shop. The employee will probably get a black mark against them ... you know how these big companies are.

I’d probably try ringing the shop, but then our nearest supermarket is nearly 20 miles away.

My mate's girlfriend used to work in Game. A lady came in one day to buy a Playstation and some accessories, she took her debit card and put it on the till, then got distracted packing it up and handed the card back without taking the payment. It was a genuine mistake but it cost her her job.

And the poor cashier who gets the blame? It maybe won't hurt the corporation but it will hurt them.

I would go back anyway. Even if there were no consequences for the cashier.
Mate... if there's no alternative other than going back, why are we even having this conversation? :)

Every debate requires at least one person to play devil's advocate... otherwise it's an almost pointless discussion.

We’ve had a couple “screw the evil conglomerate “ responses[emoji3]
I’m interested to know if he took it back.

I'm starting to think it's a daft thread to be honest... the very fact that you have to ask means half your karma credit is flushed down the drain.

Just a thought: When there's something missing in the store, it's usually not discovered in a little while until inventory is taken? So how is management to ascertain that it was cashier x who was responsible? It's like proving the negative, innit?

The better half of me would go back because it's the right thing to do; the other half would take a more pragmatic stance, factoring in price, consequences on others, etc. How many would go back if the object in question were a 1 pound piece of candy?
