Normally, the US tariff on Chinese goods is paid by the importer (you) when they arrive in the US. How is that a hassle for a Chinese company?

Bob
Bigger companies now collect the duties / taxes on behalf of the the government. I know eBay and AliExpress do for the uk.

Just to clarify things a bit. The UK government demands that companies exporting goods to the UK collect the UK sales tax/VAT and pay that directly to them.

When it comes to Tariffs, most other countries still collect any tariffs they have put on foreign goods entering their country from the importer/individual importing them when they arrive in country. Any sales taxes or duties are also payable at that time by the importer/individual bringing them in. Collecting any those are not normally the responsibility of the company exporting the goods.

This whole tariff thing is becoming a mess.

Tax / Tariff - same thing. VAT is a sales tax, or a tariff that everyone pays.

How do you know that most other countries rely on the individual to settle the bill?
Any American ordered from AliEpress recently who can confirm whether they collect the import tariff on behalf of the US government?

It doesn't look to be that simple.

Yes, I'd like to know if any American who recently purchased directly from a Chinese export company had that export company collect the US tariff on behalf of the US government.

AS I said previously, it has been a while since I have ordered anything from outside of Canada. When I did, I never paid any foreign sales tax, VAT or tariff at time of purchase. Whatever sales tax, tariff and duties were paid to the Canadian government when the goods entered Canada. I doubt that has changed but it may have.
