Yeah, I'd be unhappy with that and complainingFor context:
Note the (horizontal) laddering perpendicular to the (vertical) machine marks. There is also a 3mm scrape that's not been picked up by the camera.
Note the marks and indentation (dropped?) to the base.
If I were someone who needed my razors to be pristine works of art, I'd think again about the General. However, I'm not and I don't and so, while I stand by my comment that the finish really is dismal, I'll be using the razor in good health.

My top plate had some of the horizontal and vertical lines but no big marks like yours. I did use some 5000 grit wet sandpaper to remove the worst of the lines without really polishing it up.

$99.99 plus $16.95 P&P. I've since had part of that refunded so I'm happy enough with the acquisition. After all, brass will tarnish and show all the drops and dings.

Hmm OK, still quite steep considering, but like you say, as long as the shave isn't affected it can add to the character. I hope you enjoy the shave!

I've had 5 shaves on the brass General now, and I definitely prefer the aluminium one on a titanium handle. The extra weight of the brass doesn't add anything for me.

Another day another new razor to try.
The Brass General arrived today from @MPF9 AKA Mike, thank you. The razor is on loan from James @Acer89.
So what were my first impressions? Well it's a solid bit of kit and fits together better than the aluminium version. What I mean by that is you always feel the handle could be tighter with the aluminium version. The thread and fit is excellent with this version.
It's also heavy. Would be too heavy though?
Onto the shave. I used the Schick Proline blade for the second time and it worked brilliantly, smooth and without irritation. I did need a fourth pass under the jar line and neck but was left with a comfortable close shave.
I thought it was more efficient than the aluminium one and not by a small margin either. The weight did help in this regard but I also thought the razor was too heavy. I think it could lose 10 or 20 grams.
I also think the handle could do with more work. Although it didn't slip out my hand you are conscious of its smoothness. I think some knurling or something to add grip is necessary.
I also think the aluminium handle looks better.
Another thing I noticed when taking the razor apart was how tight the blade was held in place. This is not a bad thing by the way.
I feel as if this is still at the prototype stage. Don't get me wrong. If I had bought this version I wouldn't have been disappointed at all.
As for the Brush: Worth the wait. That's all I'm saying.

I finally had success with the Wickams soap too. I've struggled with the lather in the pass, but not tonight. Thick and creamy.

I used autosol metal polish and it gave me excellent results.
