Brass General SE from Colonial Razors

I finished the 6th shave with the brass General/Feather Pro combo. This is one of the smoothest if not the smoothest artist club razors I have tried. While being very smooth I have found it to be very efficient as well. Initially I was worried the smooth handle would present problems but I have not had any issues during use. I am very pleased with the razor and happy with my purchase. I do look forward to seeing the patina develop on the razor over time.

Clint did you have the Aluminium General before the Brass version?
Just wonder how they compare in smoothness.

No, I have a Cobra Classic, AlumiGoose Version 1 and a Mongoose Batch 2. The General is the smoothest of the lot.

I had my 1st shave with mine today, a weeks growth gone in 2 passes and a quick buff. BBS result, 1st impressions are it is a cracking razor, unlike my Mongoose it does not stick to my face.
Although I am not ready to sell all my DE razors, this has set a very high standard indeed !!

Great stuff.
Since I got my black General I haven't used any of my DE razors. Not to say I won't but just getting on so well with the General and AC blades.

On my 3rd Shave with the Brass General, extremely efficient and easy to use. After my face was prepped, I timed the Shave from lathering up
to application of After Shave - under 13minutes and still a top quality finish,and I have a strong beard too.

Finally received mine, 14 days from order to delivery. I guess I was just unlucky with the post.

First shave just now, and my impressions are that it's not quite as smooth as the aluminium head on a titanium handle. Obviously, I need to give it longer. I like the weight!

Picked up today. Bought with full knowledge that there would be machine marks but the quality of finish really is atrocious. I'll use it tonight and have a good think.

If you look at the one in Clint's pic on the previous page, mine looks like that. It has tooling marks but they are light except under the cap where I would expect marks..............

Precisely. I was thinking 1) get one of the metalwork teachers at work (school) to give it a polish in return for beer, or 2) get it plated.

Like yours the tooling marks on mine are much more noticeable under the cap. I too expected that to be the case.

I have toyed with the idea of getting a second one and having it coated by Delta Echo Razors.

Same here. I don't feel the finish of the top cap affects the performance, and the light marks run quite evenly from side to side on it. I may however, get out the blue polishing compound and have a go at it.

For context:

Note the (horizontal) laddering perpendicular to the (vertical) machine marks. There is also a 3mm scrape that's not been picked up by the camera.

Note the marks and indentation (dropped?) to the base.

If I were someone who needed my razors to be pristine works of art, I'd think again about the General. However, I'm not and I don't and so, while I stand by my comment that the finish really is dismal, I'll be using the razor in good health.
