Bowl v. Palm v. Face Lathering

I just had my first 2-pass face lathering experience. I am converted. I used PannaCrema, 24mm Muhle silvertip badger, 39c with a Perma-Sharp blade, Musgo Real ASB, and it was heavenly. And as a bonus, as has been commented on, no bowl to rinse and put away. I will never look back. (and I only filled one nostril with lather!)

Pretty much exclusive face lather, but I have two gorgeous scuttles that aren't getting much use as a result love face lathering though

I have a mug and scuttle, too. Now they are used to soak my brush!

First face lather tonight for AGES! Loved it, took a little longer but the facial massaged was enjoyed...

Face lather only. In the early days it was a bowl but don't need to do that no more. You just know when the lather is right.

I'm throwing a curveball in here:

I build lather on the puck

Load, hydrate and work the lather all on the puck, spend some time on the face for the sheer pleasure of the massage feeling.

It's a tricky method to master without wasting excess product, but it's what works for me.

recently i've been smearing the puck on my face, as you would with a stick, and then face lathering. does the job - works particularly well with a bulb brush

I shave at the gym a couple of times each week and face lather as I can't be bothered to carry a scuttle around. At home I always use a double wall scuttle filled with hot water - and much prefer building lather this way as the water to soap ratio is easier to control.

I face lathered for 45 years before using a scuttle and don't find any difference in terms of working the lather into your whiskers when using a scuttle - you still have to work the lather rather than just paint it on.

I had not really bothered face lathering but find when short of time it makes things quicker I've tried soap in bowls and also sticks and found both work well

I'm curious. I watch a great number british period dramas and in a few the Butler is shaving M'Lord. I never thought about this until now. When a barber or batman or Jeeves is doing the shave was it face lathered or bowl?

I'm bowl lathering but, after reading the above I might try face lathering again.
I get a rich sloppy lather in my bowl which I don't get on my face. Maybe it's just about experimenting.

Similar, a good face lathering is like getting a facial massage, but for me the consistency is more difficult to control - and it takes longer to build the lather..

I did do palm lathering for a long time, as it was the best way to produce considerable quantities of lather with a small brush:
