I have this style in white for painting and decorating - they come with a pouch (as well as top pocket) to carry things such as scissors, craft knife and edge-roller.

I’ve seen bib overalls, regular jeans, carpenter jeans (like overalls without the bib), and coveralls. There are barn coats that are similar to French worker’s coats.

I’ve read about twill fabric made of chino, denim, and gabardine.

Basically a type of clothing that is durable and suited for all sorts of situations.

The Wrangler 13wmz "shrink to fit" that I got twice in 2015 are no longer available. The Levis 501 shrink to fit that I got after Christmas for $39 are now $98.

I've not really seen dungarees used as overalls over here either, which is odd as they make perfect sense for the job. It would certainly stop your average builder showing his bum crack and he'd be more comfortable to boot. The closest I've seen is work trousers worn with braces, which would be almost as good.

My uncle who ran his own painting and decorating business for 40+ years wouldn't wear anything else, but my cousin who has stepped up following his father's retirement, wouldn't touch them with bargepole - wants to look cool even if potentially getting covered with paint

I was trying to think, 'why did they use white cotton, I presume that they are white because many years ago the most common colour to paint a wall was white and that white dungarees would show less in terms of paint splashes.

Fortunately, I have a three-strand clothesline out back. I've read this is the best way to dry a pair of jeans, inside out as well. That is, if you want to hold on to the indigo like I do.

Of course, this doesn't apply to work jeans that get soiled and such, but I am becoming more aware of the damage inflicted by washing and drying. I recall the cleansing effect of air on odors. Ever been somewhere with lots of cigarette smoke? Simply hanging up the clothing outside will remove it.

Does anyone still were corduroy trousers, growing up these were a good alternative to jeans when we went out as a family, father thought that jeans were never a smart item of clothing.

Perhaps cords will come back one day, along with tweed jackets.

I still wear them on cold days. I find, however, that the “cording“ wears at the knees. I agree with your father and I find cords much more comfortable than most denim jeans.

A few years ago I replaced my Irish tweed jacket with one made of wool hopsack. It won’t last as long, but it is a bit lighter weight. The next time I’m in Lerwick I could well pick up a new tweed jacket.

I've been wearing my 1954 LVC Levis shrink-to-fit for a few months now they have become extremely comfortable, and I know exactly how these jeans fit after shrinking, they always shrink 2" inches on the waist and 2" on the leg length. PS It's a shame they no longer make the LVC Levis under licence in Japan, you can still pick up the odd pair of NOS but they are becoming much harder to find, expect to pay £200 + they are 12oz denim before they are washed, once washed after they have shrunk they become a 15oz denim.

last December I found a pair of shrink to fit 501 Levis. I've washed them maybe 3-4 times and line dried inside out. They are so soft.
