Birkenstocks

Based on what you've described, it sounds like a size 9 may be the best fit for you in Birkenstocks. It's not uncommon for Birkenstocks to feel a bit snug when you first try them on, but the leather straps will stretch and mold to your feet over time. It's also worth noting that Birkenstocks are designed to be worn with a bit of room in the toe box, so a slightly snug fit is preferable to a loose fit.

Depends on which sole width you choose, Chris. I'm a 43 in wide/regular, 42 in narrow, that is 8 and 9 in UK, respectively. Which are the sizes I use in other brands too - wearing a pair of Adidas sneakers today, and those are 9. Whether you go for a soft footbed or not apparently also has an effect on your Birk size. It would make sense that you would have to go down a size if going for regular width. Go for it!

I had a pair of Gizeh sandals before and now have Arizona sandals and Boston clogs. Plus, I had a pair of shoes kind of like the ones below - they are so fabulously East-Germany uncool that they are New York cool. :p: to you, Steve
With all due respect, and this is coming from a man who has owned and worn some ugly ass shoes in his day, those are some ugly ass shoes.... just saying..... :D
