St Johns bay rum calls their product both an aftershave and a cologne. In my book there is a significant difference between them in terms of the alcohol content and fragrance intensity, with less of both being the case for aftershave. Two months ago I sent an email to the company asking them to clarify the matter, but so far not a peep from them. I’ve used Razorock products described as both aftershaves and colognes, as an aftershave. I learnt the hard way that in the case of Razorock the alcohol content and fragrance intensity is much closer to that of a cologne than it is to an aftershave. My face and neck where I applied the product as an aftershave broke out in a severe and painful rash that took nearly 3 months to abate even though I treated it with a cream prescribed by my dermatologist. Even worse I had to shave with an electric razor for most of those 3 months.

It’s very very nice - matches well to Kramperts bay rum aftershave (if anyone remembers that) which was fantastic. Unfortunately it burned my sensitive skin so I stopped using it but the scent was outstanding

I’m sorry I didn’t try Krampert’s years ago. Brian just decided one day that he’d had enough of running a small business, and just like that, he walked away.

Bryan, based on your description of your previous experience, there’s absolutely no way that your skin would take kindly to St Johns :devil:🔥🔥 I PIFfed it and don’t miss it at all!

One of my favorite ways to enjoy Bay Rum is to pour all the other Bay Rums I already own into a bottle and shake it up. I've had a bottle going for years, and if I pick up a new Bay Rum, a shot of it goes into the mixture, so it's ever-evolving and changing. At this point in time, I probably couldn't tell what was in it.

I'm a total fan of this, nothing like a blend and the layers of the fragrance keep changing, its psychedelic.

The only Bay Rum aftershave I have is Pinaud's. Not my favorite scent overall, which is why I haven't tried any other brands. But occasionally I will splash some on in the fall. I prefer citrus scents.

The reason it’s not your favorite scent is, with all due respect to its fans, Pinaud VIBR sucks. The synthetic artificiality punches one in the face like a pugilistic jab. If you want something really enjoyable try Fine Accoutrements or B&M. DRH is also pleasing but on the expensive side. Ogallala is ok, but the other two are smoother, imo. Ogallala is unique in that the entire line of variants all has the same basic undertone. I’ve tried five of them. If you’re looking at price only, try Suavecito. It’s somewhat generic but is more authentic. Even less costly per ounce is Gabel’s which is less easily found. One of my faves is Stephan. They call it bay rum but it’s buried. There, but buried. That said it’s one of the best barber shop scents I have ever smelled.
