Those of us who do not get much snow have no idea what a pain it is. I like it for the first 12 hours and then I'm over it.

Make no mistake it's a pita alright dealing with the snow dumps. OTOH, once that is done there are plenty of outdoor winter activities to do and enjoy. Unfortunately, the older you get the less appealing those activities become. That is the reason there are Canadian Snow Birds and I don't mean the aerobatic team either.

I like seeing the grass. Don’t ski ⛷ or skate, or play hockey.

We're supposed to have freezing rain overnight tonight, hope it's not too bad. That stuff will take down trees and powerlines and make things difficult.

Yea, and you can add "black ice" to the list of woes. If you have ever hit black ice on the highway that will curl your toes if you survive.

My brother is commanding a unit there. He says he actually feel hot at 0 Celsius and wear half sleeve t shirts when coming down to lower civilization. I think he is rather happy to make his own tea in spare time. It takes a pressure cooker and just 45 minutes to get a cuppa.

It's amazing what you get acclimated to. I can see a 20 degree temperature change making big difference. Same here when winter is fading and it starts hanging around the freezing mark. It actually feels very warm but the same temperature after summer is over feels much colder than it did in the spring. High altitude and cold weather sure makes cooking anything take much longer and is an experience most do not get to experience, thankfully.

The coldest I have been out in is -11c which is about 20f, I was very happy to get back into a building, coldest I have driven in was -20c, I was amazed at the complete lack of driving skills that I saw that day, people thought that 6000 revs in 1st and opposite lock was the only way to go on frozen roads.

I experienced -27 F in the late '80's in Knoxville, Tennessee. Apparently, we were the coldest place in the US. It had been 87 earlier that month. No way to get acclimated with those extremes and our houses were not built as they are in Canada, I assume. Pipe froze and did much damage. Fortunately I went under the house and stuff newspaper and clothes in as many crevices as I saw.

At the start of each winter here we have a good amount of drivers that have to relearn how to drive in winter conditions and some never seem to either. I remember when we used bias ply tires here and you knew it was really cold when you spent the first few miles humping along the highway because of the flat spot on your tires. No such problem with radial tires.
