Atelier DURDAN Prototype SE AC

I just tried this razor for the first time, I bought the SB head only with the + plate, in stainless steel, sand blasted finish.

I was fortunate to buy before the recent price increases, now the head would set me back €205, I got it for €165 plus postage. This is an expensive razor, even before the price increases which I feel now places it beyond what many would be prepared to pay for such an item. That said the fit and finish of the product is indeed quality and off a high level.

Now onto the shave?…well wow!. Fantastic, efficient and super smooth. The only other SE razor I currently own is the Razorock Hawk V3 A, which I really like but find it a little mild for more than daily shaves. The La Faulx + plate is certainly more efficient and just as smooth. It gave me a great shave on two days growth with a Schick Proline blade with no weepers or cuts and just a little irritation around the Adam’s Apple which I put down to me being a little too enthusiastic on the ATG passes.

I have previously owned a Vector, Claymore Evo and Stando SE all off which I sold as they didn’t feel quite right for me.The La Faulx seems more to my liking and far more intuitive to use, at least for me. Worth the almost three month wait!.
Nice review of the + plate. I have the same and do not want to sound too enthusiastic after just 2 shaves, but I have to agree. A very nice balance between efficiency and comfort that none of the AC razors I have tried before (Asylum RX, ATT X1, Hawk OC, Hawk A, Paradigm, Vector, Shield, Claymore Evo, Colonial) has managed. I would be perfectly content if it weren’t for that damn WR4 on the market.

Completely agree and fortunately I have not been interested in any Wolfman for years. :okay:

Umming and ahing over this, and whether to pay extra for polished.

PayPal pay-in-3 is a definite enabler.

I wanted to share my initial impressions with the La Faulx, (+) baseplate. If there's a better suited place to post it, pls transfer my post.

I had a very fine first outing yesterday.

The (+) La Faulx loaded with a fresh Kai Captain provided a very comfy shave. Two passes, some touchups... almost bbs. I should have applied some extra s>n buffing atg in the soul patch area, because I had missed out some stubble there. But when I realized the remainder of said stubble, I already had cleaned the razor, so I called it a day.

Whilst evaluating the options, I was torn between the (+) and the (++) baseplate. I early had ruled out the whisker wacking opportunities of a higher plate and the milder option of the classic one, too, thanks to the reports I found online.

With the vast experience of just one shave in the books  , I'm pretty confident that the (+) baseplate might be a very smart choice for me and my face. I like the balance between a rather high efficiency result and the rather low blade feel this shaver offers with the (+) baseplate.

The Kai Captain combined with my preferred "two passes plus"-approach (means "wtg/atg passes, touchups as needed") might be a great set up for anyone shaving daily in an efficient manner (but it won't be limited to this task, no, not at all. Be fearful, three days beard).

It's a very well performing razor in terms of stubble reduction, I have no doubts about it. Even so, when the milder Kai Captain blade is being loaded. Really nice.

It's too early to judge the longevity of my shave results... I had just passed the 10 hours mark when regrowth stsrted tarts to be noticeable again (rubbing my hand over the cheeks atg).

However, I can easily imagine a Feather Pro might be even more effective In this razor - same would be the case with the Kai blade being used in a third full pass. There's a full bunch of options to fine tune the shaves.

I'll definitely have to do more test shaves but it appears the La Faulx will be a keeper for me.

I was able to replicate the results today. "Two passes plus" - BBS.

An excellent shaver. Well done @Atelier Durdan.

Cheers!

The first week is almost in the books.
Five of the last six shaves were dedicated to the La Faulx. A Kai Captain has been loaded for all shaves.

The efficiency of this combination and the level of blade feel make it a very suitable daily driver. There was not even any skin irritation or cuts. The shave is very balanced.

Overal, I'm enjoying this razor. Thumbs up!

I'm continueing my journey with the La Faulx (+). It's pure shaving bliss. The Kai Captain classic (8) isn't entirely done, but I will pause shaving with this blade at this point. The upcoming shaves will be done with a fresh Feather Professional instead.

But I'll sneak in a few shaves with other razors first... they are already getting jealous 🤣

Cheers!

Good morning, can you advise what finish you have on your razor? Thanks, Andy

Sure, Andy!
It's the basic "machined" finish.
IIRC, the picture in post #81 (photo collage) has not been edited in post and gives you a proper impression how the finish of the razor looks in reality. The knurling of the handle kind of catches the light in the "crossed sections", thus there's the glossy hue/shine. The head is more like a sandblasted/matte finish.

I'll share another ooc photo tomorrow (it will be late tonight until I get home).

Cheers!

Thank you so much for your response. I was debating whether to get the polished version or not and this has helped me make up my mind.
Cheers, Andy

One of the best SE razors ever produced in the Artist Club realm and just for the sake of a healthy discussion, one could argue that it could be the best razor ever made regardless of blade format. The blade melds seamlessly into this razor and it just produces one of the softest skin feeling performers while being ruthlessly efficient on the whiskers regardless of daily or a full two weeks worth or more of beard growth. The price is the biggest negative with the La Faulx but, that argument has existed since the beginning when men decided they wanted to look presentable in all facets of life and needed something sharp to bring down the whiskers. The Paradigm Ti SE was one of the smoothest razors I’ve ever tried but, for me lacked the cutting ability that I required. The La Faulx equals that level of smoothness if not surpassing the Paradigm altogether. It really is a phenomenal razor and if I were to recommend to anyone on this planet that had the funds to acquire any razor ever made that combined all attributes of ease of use, feel on skin and it’s elite level craftsmanship, the La Faulx would definitely be in the top 1% of that recommendation.
