I've heard it smells exactly like Davidoff Cool Water? That was enough to kill my interest in it to be honest...
I'm not familiar with Davidoff Cool Water. I'm going to have to check my samples to see if I have one to see what it smells like. Thanks for the info.

Cool Water is a 1988 aquatic fougere supposedly inspired by Creed "Green Irish Tweed"... Indeed they are quite similar. It's a very common scent over here, in fact I got a strong whiff of it in the shop this morning when buying milk :yuck:

EU vs US - Rumble in the... Bathroom?:boxing:

Very interesting. Scent out of the bottle is quite different, EU smells like a refreshing Cologne whereas US smells like a mixture of rubbing alcohol and domestic cleaning product... I suspect this is due to the plastic bottle which has the same awful effect on Pinaud aftershaves.

Once applied the EU remains a light, bright, powdery citrus which comes out all guns blazing and is quite potent for 5 minutes before disappearing over the next hour. The US has a somewhat similar scent once applied but the citrus is overpowered by a blast of mint which dominates for a couple of minutes, this is very different from the EU version which has no mint. After the mint dies down the scent is 80-90% identical to the EU version just darker and I daresay less cheerful. Menthol content feels the same, the US version has the better face feel for my skin but that is very much YMMV depending on skin type and preference.

They are truly brothers and the end result is a draw in my opinion. Both great products and for the low cost it's worth owning both versions as they each offer a slightly different take on the same scent.

Thank you for posting the comparison. I had always wondered about that. I decant my AV and Pinaud after shaves into glass containers because of the possible ill effects storing in plastic bottles may have.

No problem Bob. Those plastic bottles are a nightmare, they seem to really taint the scent but it seems fine once dispensed so must be the plastic itself which smells?

I plan on doing the same comparison with US vs EU Skin Bracer next but am yet to order them.

Good luck to you with Skin Bracer comparison. That is one after shave I just can't stand the scent of. As always YMMV.

I'm yet to get my nose around it but have read that in contrast to Aqua Velva the EU Skin Bracer smells much classier than it's US counterpart.

I tried US version in 7oz plastic bottle. It reeks of plastic for first few mins as noted above and then sink to insipid nothing. Scent wasn't inspiring enough to prompt me and try save it in decanter. Menthol is adequate for summer without being too much.
For the same price point consideration Mennen SB is bit more complex scent and it is doing better when decanted in old glass bottle. I use it anytime but a scent snob might depute it in early Autumn or similar weather.
