Any collection highlights?
I have a Parker 51 and a Lamy 27. Other than that my pens are all modern.
Where to begin? Let me give you a few highlights of my collection. My favourite pens are modern and vintage Pelikans of which I own six. Of these the more interesting are my Pelikan M800 stamped, ‘W. Germany’, i.e. pre re-unification, and my Pelikan 100 dating from 1935. I have 15 vintage Conway Stewarts including such icons as a 100, a 58, a Dinky, a Duro and a Dandy. I have 4 Onotos dating from 1920, 1935, 1938 and 1946. I also have 6 crescent fillers of different makes including a very early Conklin. From a design perspective my most interesting pens are from Wahl Eversharp and include 2 early Dorics, a Symphony with a slipper cap, a Fifth Avenue and 3 Skylines. I have a number of Shaeffers dating to the early 1900s. My other vintage pens include Parkers, Watermans, Mabie Todd Swans, Conklins and Esterbrooks. Among my Parkers are an original T-Ball Jotter dating to 1954 and 2 51s, one was my father’s and dates to 1954, and the other dates to 1947. My sole Lamy is a Safari, which is a terrific pen. I trust you can get a sense of my pen collecting habit from this, but I must confess that my collection could do with a culling of the modern pens.

After living in Berlin for 7 years I am obsessed with all things “W. Germany”. I’m on the hunt for a W. Germany Lamy 2K.

I've started collecting vintage shaving mirrors. Some really nice ones out there...from back in the day when bathroom wall mirrors were a rarity...from when shaving was done in a bedroom.

I have a small guitar and bass collection. I used to have more, but sold some to fund the wedding a few years back. It is growing year on year. It will give me years of pleasure whilst I am alive, and hopefully my children too. I've said to my wife that if I go first, there is one I am to be buried with, the rest are for my kids and her, to either enjoy for more years, or to sell and use the money for something that brings them joy.

I don't think of my library as a collection, per se, because most of it is at least tangentially related to my work, but I own several thousand books- maybe 4000? 5000?. I really have no idea what the exact figure would be. It's a bitch to move, let me tell you. But I think of a collection as something that I purposefully set out to collect, so in that regard I'd say that all of my collections are modest, but I have a collection of flags and banners, some rather old and historical, others reproductions or contemporary flags. I also collect baseball caps, & have some from the 1930s and 40s. I have around 100 autographed photos of men who played for the American baseball team now known as the Atlanta Braves. Some of the photos are from Atlanta, but most are from previous incarnations of the club in Milwaukee and Boston. Finally, I have a small collection of Latin (Catholic), Greek & Russian (Orthodox), & English (most are the Book of Common Prayer) breviaries or prayer books, some of which date back a few hundred years. Again, these are all rather modest collections. Even the Braves' photos are of men that none but the most ardent baseball fan would know anything about. They're mostly pretty obscure characters.

I have a small collection of alcohol .... but I only really collect certain bottles. Some wines some scotch, Cognac, grappa and other goodies.

Directly heated vintage vacuum tubes, from the 20s on e.g. 26, 10Y, 01A. I build amps and preamps with them. They just sound better than anything that came afterwards, except for more modern directly heated tubes like 2a3, 300b, 4P1L. By now I have far too many amps and preamps as well - must sell some!
