There's a simpler solution - convict and properly sentence police officers who commit crimes. Is this unclear for any reason?

Obviously you would feel slightly differently I take it had it been your store that had been trashed and looted ? Or would you operate a help yourself to my stock the door is open policy, no tills, I’ll stock the store, you just walk in and help yourself? There has been a wrong. No doubt in my mind and the people involved Must be held to account but you cannot counter that wrong with mass burning and stealing. The people doing this do not care about the man murdered. They are merely criminals awaiting the opportunity to cause anarchy as such order has to be restored and the military has to bring order. People have the right to demonstrate and to free speech. They do not have the right to pillage and plunder at will.

I thought that the point of this and other similar incidents was that Americans of all races have the right to "life" as described in the constitution, which they would reasonably expect the police, as instruments of the state that granted this right, to uphold?

Which I agreed with if you had read my post. They do not have the right to mayhem, stealing and chaos. I don’t think I am wrong in my assumption on that.

Yes, you did indeed did say that. I think one of the dilemmas that Americans have had to to deal with as a result of the Declaration of Independence is the interpretation of "Liberty", or "Freedom" as it's mostly called these days. Like many historical milestones this was created out of the conditions prevailing at the time. And that was a time where the Internet, Covid and climate change didn't exist. Take from that fact what you will.
I would add that strictly in my own view, no human is born with "rights". It's not included in the biology. What there is are guarantees offered by states and countries, which vary accordingly. Such guarantees are not absolute and can be revised, added to or deleted according to which governments are in power. Populations who expect guarantees to be honoured or who want guarantees that previously were non-existent, have throughout history used force to secure what they needed. Sometimes what you get is "a glorious revolution" and other times you just get meaningless bloodshed.

Our Declaration of Independence (via Thomas Jefferson) encapsulates unalienable rights as 'Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness'. Anyone who doesn't believe these are God-given is obviously a European without a written Bill of Rights, or a Constitution.. It is these principles which led millions of Americans to give their lives, liberty, and their pursuit of happiness for Europeans bereft of such guarantees twice last century.
