This is sort of an acquisition. A friend bought it because he (rightly) liked but it doesn’t fit his modelling era. However, it does fit mine, so I have it on what you might call permanent loan.

Not that old Mark. Class 56 diesel electric (to be accurate) first introduced on BR in 1976. It’s a Hornby model, introduced in 2007.

There were a number of liveries, including Rail Blue. This model is in what was known as ‘Red Stripe Railfreight’. Some were also painted in a triple grey scheme later in their careers. After privatisation, they were turned out in various company colours, including red & gold. It’s a complex subject!

All 56s were freight locos. A few are still in service.
