When my daughter was a teenager she complained loud and often that we governed our lives far too much according to the time of day, now she is much older and 'international' she lives her life by the minute. I speak and deal with people around the world, as does she, we work on a 24 hour basis and to GMT, therefore there is no ambiguity. Must admit we are sometimes thrown off kilter when someone says 2pm Lakes Time or the hour change is different in their location.

As stated above, it all depends on what you get used to.

In a previous job I often had to speak to people overseas and we always used UTC, anything else and they would state their offset from it, ie "we're UTC +4". It's mildly annoying when people omit to say what their UTC offset is and just says something like "Lakes Time" that you then have to Google and hope that it's right.

Never understood why someone would not say the offset in a + or - number. That makes thing much simpler and clearer.

Because if you work for an American company they assume it all revolves around EST (and assignments must be delivered by 6/7* (so I’m never sure if I have a month more than I think I have or not!)) - thank god Outlook calendar self corrects when the clock change!

* If it’s in an email from an American I can assume it’s 7th June but when the timing plan is written by a Brit for a US management review - who knows!

Why not Zulu +4?
