I tried to order stuff from Amazon for Ireland and they charge customs and vat automatically on anything over 20£...

Whilst I can understand why eBay, Amazon, etc would now automatically add VAT to goods coming to the UK from an EU country, I’m not quite sure why now that would also be the case for something coming from Morocco...
Clearly I’m missing something.

Interestingly, the other Moroccan websites selling Wizamets (wizablades.com and superiridium.com) still seem to offer shipping to the UK, and don’t add any VAT to the advertised price when trying to order...
Obviously the package might attract VAT and customs charges when arriving in the UK, depending on the declared value, which has always been the case.

Customs used to be applied to all purchases from outside the EU, as we are no longer in the EU customs apply to all purchases outside the UK be it from Germany, USA or Morocco.

Yes, I realised today what I was missing... after reading this...

I hadn’t realised the HMRC had changed the rules for all countries from Jan 1st 2021 (including non-EU countries), and all companies would now need to register for UK VAT and collect it at source if shipping any goods to UK customers... which is why a lot of companies both from EU and non-EU countries have now removed UK from their list of shipping destinations... crazy...!

I think that sums it up...

"For providing this service, [HMRC] intend to charge a fee to every company in the world in every country in the world which exports to the UK," said Dutch Bike Bits on its website.
"Clearly this is ludicrous for one country, but imagine if every country in the world had the same idea.
"If every country decided to behave in the same way, then we would have to pay 195 fees every year, keep up with the changes in taxation law for 195 different countries, keep accounts on behalf of 195 different countries and submit payments to 195 tax offices in 195 different countries, and jump through whatever hoops were required to prove that we were doing all of this honestly and without any error."

Stuff from a bike shop.
That situation they describe is jaw-droppingly insane. I wonder, does the UK government think it will encourage people to set up small import businesses to provide customers with products that overseas vendors will no longer ship to them? I am economically naive but that is the only possible explanation I can think of...either that or they just want to make sure they can tax everything and they know that without consolidating all imports under larger, more easily taxable organisations, huge amounts of potential revenue from individual overseas purchases will be lost due to the logistical and administrative impossibility of processing it all. Of course, you can't stop the UK public wanting to buy from overseas sellers but you can make it so awkward for the vendors that they won't sell.

Unfortunately this sort of inept nonsense is what we have to deal with regularly from the UK Government and with far more serious matters too such as COVID test and trace. The words proverbial and brewery spring to mind.

First outing with a Wizamet today. Not impressed. I actually forgot I had loaded it into the razor and thought I was on shave 4 with a GSB. I was thinking "Damn, this GSB isn't doing well...I can usually get 4 shaves from one without issues".

I almost dumped the blade at the end of the first pass but decided to persevere. Only at the end of the shave did I take the blade out and realise it was actually a new Wizamet.

Goes to show...YM certainly may V.

Maybe try one after running the edge through a wine cork? These are much keener than GSBs so that helps as sometimes we tend to perceive the sharpness as discomfort.

I used one in a Blackland Dart this morning and had a fantastic shave. I’ll be using the same tomorrow but with a different soap but I expect the result will be just as good.

I used another one yesterday and the shave was much better. Still not quite as sharp as I feel like it ought to be, but I think it would go well in one of my newly acquired slants. I have a couple of tucks to work through but can't say I feel compelled to stock up on more at the moment. I can see the appeal, but my love is still reserved for Permasharps and the ever faithful Feathers - more Wizzies for the rest of you!
