Nothing poor about the coyote. We have many in our neighbourhood here in southern Ontario and you have to be very watchful with respect to your cats and small dogs. We also have a small number of coywolves (a coyote/wolf hybrid) in the area. On the positive side, they do keep the rabbit and mouse population in check.Poor coyote...wolves are majestic animals nonetheless.
You could say it's a dog eat dog world. Coyotes have been extending their range in North America at a time when most animals ranges are shrinking. They are tremendously adaptive to new environments.Poor coyote...wolves are majestic animals nonetheless.
Good point. They also seem to be losing some of their fear of humans. In summer when I’m working in the garden a lone coyote often will walk along on street about 20 feet from me, but won’t pause. Also, I’ve seen one peaking out of the shrubbery and then moving off when approached. What is annoying are the people who put food out for the rabbits, which attracts the coyotes, of course: sort of a coyote smorgasbord. Fortunately they are still very cautious around people. You could say it's a dog eat dog world. Having received all of my education regarding coyotes from the scientifically sound Roadrunner cartoons this comes rather as a surprise to me.They are tremendously adaptive to new environments.
