Surely the roller will flatten the hair, trying to visualise the direction of the hair with the roller action but I’ve had a drink..

This razor head has me intrigued as well. Might just pick it up to see how it performs. Whityle razors are a hit and miss most often but at their price point, there is nothing much to complain about.

Whityle products are so funny. I like that they're willing to throw ideas against the wall like so much spaghetti to see what sticks. Recently, they've introduced a four-blade system like this, which calls to mind the Five-Assed Monkey from early South Park.

Most of the time, I try their products, have a laugh, and decide it isn't for me because I hate the pivoting system, or I think the handle is horrifically ugly, or the huge facets stick to my head during head shaving, or I think the loading mechanism is a death trap, or whatever.

This one arrived yesterday, and I tried it last night on both head and face.

The M5 thread for the handle is kind of garbage and chromed for some reason. Easier to do it than not, I guess. Finally found a handle that would work and got it on (Yaqi brass). Opening to load the blades was not intuitive, but I got there eventually, and it's more secure than the 20T, for sure.

Normally, I would put in some nice pre-cut Perma-Sharps or Treet Platinums to test a SHaDE razor. No, not this time, baby. I had a (horrors) Derby Extra laying around for some reason, so I snapped it and dropped them in like some sort of hobo riding the rails of bling Chinese razors. The magnets worked well, and the guideposts got the blades to the right place with minimal work. Those curled-up edges didn't prove problematic.

Lathered up with a PAA Cube and TOBS Lime. If this razor was going to kill me, it was going to do it with a scent I like.

So I started on my face. The rolling bar makes for an odd gliding sensation. My brain went on autopilot, and I zipped through two passes in about four minutes, pausing only to unclog with running water and the little brush they give you with it.

Uh...DFS+. Only needed a little touch up with the trusty Shield AC in tight spots.

"I'll show you!", I thought, and lathered up my head for the inevitable suction fest and possible ear removal.

The scalloped head, lower angle and rolling safety bar meant no suction. Five minutes later...BBS-. Again, only needed a little touch up with the Shield AC around the ears.

To paraphrase Doc Brown: It works! They finally built something that works!

There is nothing sublime about this shaving experience. No ineffable, ethereal Zen mastery. The rolling safety bar feels a little weird. I had to unclog it with the brush, like, once a minute.

All that aside...my hairs were shorn quickly and efficiently. My mind is swimming a bit. When I try with sharper blades, it'll probably be even better. Round 2 tonight.

Round 2. Kept the Derby Extras in. No change in the results, other than maybe DFS+ on the head part of the shave. Threw those blades out and pre-loaded with some snapped Personna Lab Blues. Had slightly more problem aligning the top blade and getting it closed. Not taking it with me for Thanksgiving travel, but it'll be there when I get back. No less intrigued.
