Don't most of the barbershops have basil?
Mikes, Maggards, MickeyLee, Shannons, Wholly Kaw, Soap Commander, Grooming Dept and some others all have that basil, oakmoss, patchouli, citrus mix.

In all my life, I have never smelt Basil in any barbershop! As a kid I would accompany my Grandfather to the the barbershop, where a white coated man with slick pomaded hair would dazzle everyone with his skill, speed and precision of the blade.
I remember the bay rum, citrus and lavender scents and plumes talcum powder but as I said never any basil!
I'm not used to it and funnily enough, every make of barbershop you mentioned there, I have never used their barbershop :okay:

So does anyone know if it is based on any other fragrance?
The scents include Bergamont, lavender, Patcholi, cedarwood and a touch of basil.......a typical barber shop scent from OSP. I used mine today and the basil isn't that pronounced to be honest. I like it anyway.
It is interesting none the less how basil became part of the barber shop scent.
Maybe it's got Itallan roots? P.

I was just wondering if it was based an old make cologne!

‘Barbershop’ is a funny one. The soaps I’ve tried which are classed as ‘Barbershop’ all smell the same and nothing like any Barbershop I’ve been into. All the ‘Barbershop’ scent/profiles are based on YSL Rive Gauche, which (if memory serves) is based on the American shaving foam Barbasol. So it’s not actually based on the smell of an actual shop.

But hey I could be wrong?
