I would say EJ89 is somewhere in the lower range on the BB.. can’t quite remember, I have tried both of them, but it’s been a while. EJ89 is a mild, clean shaver and reminds me of a Tech. If you don’t mind me saying, I find it a bit boring. This razor is for a beginner, a person who doesn’t know what to expect of wet shaving, and wants to stay on the safe side (e.g they might quit, if they find it’s not for them). In my opinion, you won’t get anything from EJ89 that you don’t already have with the BB.
If you’re interested in exploring the vintage Gillette line, I would look into the New Type (long comb), New RFB (set 44 and 77), Bostonian (or variations, e.g. Richwood), and/or New Deluxe. All these are on the more aggressive side of the BB, but they are a lot more efficient. I mean to say, it’s not like they are overly aggressive like some modern razors, but their head profile is just better, lower, all are open comb, incredibly efficient. If you spend some time looking, they can be had for a reasonable price (£30-40 let’s say is reasonable to me).

One personal noteworthy point in all this, and after 9 years of intense acquisitions across a number of spectrums, is that engagement in forums makes a situation far worse if one is not disciplined. Halvor @halvor said it very well earlier in this thread: "...Forum activity doesn’t exactly quench acquisition disorders..."
In my humble opinion acquisition disorder is fuelled by lack of discipline and also by other inherent psychological triggers in one's spending behaviour.
It is also greatly influenced by the way in which specific artisans or brands craft a myth around their product(s). These people choose to carefully build a story behind what they manufacture, and pricing follows that story accordingly. Price follows the story, not the actual product. Then the momentum starts to build up in the forums = job is almost done.
