Oh No! The Rabbit hole is opening, Ahem, so to speak.I think I should get a fancy shaving bowl. Currently using a dish from my kitchen which I usually put olives in haha!
Yes! While it’s true that you can save money on razor blades it seems that you can spend hundreds on other fancy things. Bowls, razors, brushes, lotions and soaps etc. it’s surprising. Here was me thinking all I need is a razor and some soap haha!Oh No! The Rabbit hole is opening, Ahem, so to speak.
That is all you need. After years of buying tons of stuff, for the last year I’ve mostly used one razor, a couple of brushes and three or four soaps.Yes! It's all about discipline and not buying more than you need. Which most on atg adhere to strictly.....Yes! That is a beautiful looking bowl. If I didn't face-lather, exclusively, I would get one.I reckon Steve Woodhead hit the nail on the head with his Pedestal Shaving Bowl.
Safe gripping pedestal in palm of hand, big ridges, deep bowl with angled sides to prevent clanging against the brush.
I have more than half a dozen shaving bowls of all shapes, sizes and materials but I more often come back to using this one. Ceramic maintains some heat after being pre-warmed from hot tap water and simply put, the bowl is a joy to use and oozes quality.
Dimensions: top diameter 15cm, inside lower diameter 6cm, inside height 7cm

I was using this Fine, but I really wasn't able to get a thick lather from it. I think the finish is too slick.

Hey sonofgaladriel, My Simpson Berkeley 46 BB brush is holding up fine after 2 months of using this Suribachi every other day. I haven't lost a single brush hair yet, and the hairs look fine under a magnifying glass. The interior edges of the bowl aren't that sharp. Hope this helps.Just curious how the bristles have held up with this suribachi? Are you worried about the sharp interior edges prematurely wearing out your brush?
Your Welcome! Glad I could help! So far, so good with that bowl. The only thing is that bowl isn't that deep (5 1/2"w 3 1/2"d), I believe Helen's Asian Kitchen make's bigger bowls and I might go for one of them soon.Great to hear Diesel! Thank you for the reply. I'm strongly considering that bowl myself, but was worried those sharp ceramic interior edges would damage the brush. Glad to hear they do not.
