Call in to Ikea, they do a small white ceramic bowl which is perfect in dimensions for the hand and £3

Don't ask me what it is called - let's call it - Bowl Splunge

I reckon Steve Woodhead hit the nail on the head with his Pedestal Shaving Bowl.
Safe gripping pedestal in palm of hand, big ridges, deep bowl with angled sides to prevent clanging against the brush.

I have more than half a dozen shaving bowls of all shapes, sizes and materials but I more often come back to using this one. Ceramic maintains some heat after being pre-warmed from hot tap water and simply put, the bowl is a joy to use and oozes quality.

Dimensions: top diameter 15cm, inside lower diameter 6cm, inside height 7cm

If you can make this bowl with the dimensions of 13x7cm at a much lower price it would be ok.
Not sure I want to get into making shaving bowls :D Razors are challenging enough. I was mainly interested in the brush rest feature. I can imaging it makes a good thumb rest when you are holding it.

Thats got a really nice colour too. I like the change in the glaze with the ridges. Nicely proportioned too.

Bought this in superlight melamin a couple of years ago and got change back on 2 pounds, if dropped it will not break, will not break bathroom porcelain or my toes either, re size it is perfect for my hand to hold.

It's fairly important to keep your toes at our age.

Hand made? Satin black is quite sleek!
Oh no, I don't believe so.

Satin black is excellent and very comfortable in the hand. I like the black colour in contrast with the white lather, I can see when it is ready for shave :)

Great point about the contrast to the lather! Never thought of that.
Thanks! Yes, I started with white bowls and I didn't like them so much, because I was losing the lather consistency every time and was adding too much water.

I now have 5-6 bowls 2 of them are black (one is ceramic to keep the lather temperature) and I use them most of the times when I don't face lather.

Talk to Northam saint, he is the Professor of the bowl.

The trouble with bowls is Size......ahem..... It all comes down to how big is your knot :hyper:. Personally, I think a bowl should be able to take a 16mm to 30mm knot. Anything bigger, get a bucket 😀.

North Saint has been making some really nice bowls. The design is awesome and better yet, I don't see anyone else doing bowls with the same design. If he ever ends up making them to truly sell and ship overseas, I'd definitely want one of them. I agree that size its key. Don't want them too small but too big is also an issue for me. On someone's suggestion I bought a large copper bowl with tin lining, similar to those turkish mugs, but MUCH larger. I used it a handful of times and found it to just be too big, even with a large brush. So it sits on my dresser top filled with tubes of shaving cream.

I was using this Fine, but I really wasn't able to get a thick lather from it. I think the finish is too slick.
