Yea, that is a shavette she is using. That is all the barbers over can use and they must change blades between customers too, I believe.

I saw that a few days ago and thought at the time that the last photo is not really much of a recommendation. It probably just a set up for publicity, but the blood spot and lack of lather is a bit frightening.

@R181 - Bob, over here you see quite a few barbers using shavettes for cleaning up the neck area and cutting hair lines in younger guys. They dont always change blades, just use barbicide inbetween customers.

Yes, they do a lot of the trimming with shavettes here also plus complete shaves. When blood borne diseases became a real or imagined issue here they had to switch to shavettes. Changing the blade after each customer seems to fit otherwise why couldn't they just continue to use straight razors and barbicide. It's all a puzzle to me.

I remember telling a local barber that he was not using a real straight razor but a shavette. All I got was a blank look as the shavette was all he had trained on and thought it was a real straight razor.
