Taking a Nap

Since retiring, one thing I enjoy is taking a nap. It is usually around noon and during the broadcast of Performance Today. I like to have it playing softly in the background. I don't always fall asleep, but I enjoy just the same of spending 30 minutes to an hour somewhere in a sleep pattern or not.

I just read that nap taking is common in several countries. Americans are too busy.

Really common in hotter parts of Europe, shops close and the streets are deserted.

Used to enjoy a daytime sleep after taking my dog on a long country walk, we would come home, share a lunch, put on an old film on the TV and sleep and snore, bliss.

I try very hard not to nap during the day... I don't want to upset my sleep at night. That said, about 2:30 PM I will have a lie down and just rest my eyes for 20 minutes or so.
When I was working it usually meant driving to and from accounts. It was no uncommon to get sleepy in the afternoon. I later read that it was caused by dehydration. I began to carry water in the vehicle.

It used to be still common in south France in the 70's.

As a north-east France kid spending most of his summers in Provence I couldn't stand these long "sieste" (nap) times when every store was closed, most local kids stayed home, and you had to either take a nap (not me, no way) or keep silent enough to let adults sleep.

The practice faded in the 80's with malls replacing the old local area stores in cities but I think it's still strong in the countryside.

I think I could enjoy this nap tradition now.

That's interesting...

I always heard that we get tired around 3 PM because our bodies are working hard to digest out lunch... I guess some bodies have to work harder than others,,
