RIP Obie Yadgar

I posted this in Obie’s introduction thread, but thought it would be perhaps more appropriate to mark the news with a dedicated thread.

Earlier today I spoke with Phil Huntsinger who told me the sad news about our friend Obie’s passing. Per Phil, Obie passed away last Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

Obie Yadgar was an author, musician, filmmaker, narrator and radio DJ. Obie was truly a renaissance man who was generous with his kind words and friendship. Everyone was Obie’s friend. Over the years dozens, maybe hundreds of TSN members were the fortunate recipients of Obie’s penchant for buying, trying and supplying. His presence within the community will be missed.

I posted the sad news on the Straight Razor Community a few days ago, I have known Obie for more than a decade, he was a true gentleman, very well respected in the Straight Razor community, he was a moderator on the SRP in the US, Here are a few words from Obie's daughter, Sonia.

He was a legend…
A hero
A Vietnam Veteran
A son
A brother
A husband
A “poppie”
A “gampy”
A friend
An uncle
A cousin
A father in law
A mentor
A writer
A public speaker
A classic movie lover
A hat lover just like his daughter
A Classical Radio Announcer
A three-time published author
An avid lover of shaving
A spiritual man who believed you always do your best and treat others with human kindness and respect. A man who deeply loved and always put his family first.
He was an Assyrian immigrant who made America his proud home at a very young age. He loved tea, good food and a glass of wine, Peroni beer or cognac once in a while. He loved all that America had to offer.
Most of all, he was my biggest cheerleader and the best Papa Bear a daughter could ask for.
Last year we lost our mom, and he was the glue that held our family together. That said, he lost half of his heart when she passed.
My mom and dad shared a beautiful “earthly love story that spanned 60 years and now, he’s joined her in eternal love.
I am saddened to say that my dad lost his one-year battle with Neuroendocrine Cancer on August 30, 2023. He gained his angel wings peacefully with my sister and I by his side.
Cancer is a devil that must be stopped and his passing has fueled me to make a bigger impact to help those who may be suffering from this insidious disease.
Our hearts are shattered, but we know he’s free from pain and enjoying a glorious reunion with my mom and with God.
My dad was truly a legend that the city of Milwaukee will never forget. His one-of-a-kind voice and love of classical music put a smile on his listener's faces for many years. The Milwaukee “airwaves” will never be the same.
My Papa Bear always taught me to do my best and to fight for the life I wanted. Even in his last days, he asked me “How’s business?”.
Rest in Eternal Peace and Love with Mama Bear, Dad. Please give Mom a hug and kiss from me. Thank you for giving me life and endless love for all these years. I will always be your butterfly.

*For those who knew and loved my dad, we are hard at work planning a beautiful celebration of his life in the months to come. Once details are finalized, we will share them. Until then, please keep our family in your prayers.

What a lovely gentleman he was. I loved reading his posts on the various forums and bought a few impeccable items from him over the years - I think the last was a Blue Tip Rocket several years ago.

Unusually for us, we have a bottle of Peroni in the fridge. I’ll pour a glass while I make dinner tonight and toast a life that was clearly well-lived and well-loved.
