Proraso Red Pre / Post

I will be quite honest and say that I have never used a pre-shave product before. I bought this at the same time as a tub of the same flavoured soap because I had read that it can be used as a post-shave balm.

Indeed it can and this is how I use it.

There are no surprises that it matches the scent of the soap, providing a nice sandalwood waft. You only need a small amount of product and it needs to be well rubbed in otherwise it looks a bit like you;'ve been playing around with the wife's foundation (again). It does leave the skin nice and dry and could not be described as greasy at all, so if you have oily skin this may just well suit you.

I suppose the question is, is it good enough that once gone (which will takes yonks) - would I buy it again? Well, considering the price and the fact that I do not have any other sandalwood post shave gear - probably. Maybe.

I bought the big tub of the Green one a couple of years ago.

It's a decent product and does what it's supposed to but I won't be buying it again when it runs out though.

I used 2 tubs of the green, but didn't re-purchase. I find that with the plethora of good soaps available, pre or post has become redundant (especially in summer). But it's not a bad product in my mind. Not keen on the sandalwood scent, but have to say it's pretty spot on.

I've been intrigued about pre-shave products but as Nishy has said, with the soaps available now and my pre-shave routine licked, I'm not convinced I'd need it, or that it would make any difference.

But you can use it as a post. If you really wanted a sandalwood flavoured balm(ish).

It is quite versatile. Like the fact you say it is not so greasy. The green version I found to be quite oily even with a very small amount.

For a post shave balm I sometimes dilute a little of the green with a splash of Alcolado Glacial, it takes out the greasiness and gives you a huge menthol hit.
Its quite nice especially when its hot.

Interesting observations. I have all the Proraso soaps, and the pre-post shave creams. I have tried them as post-shave creams, but I find the scent a bit overpowering, especially the red...it lingers all day. I tend to go low-scent post shave. But as a preshave I use them off and on. Truthfully, Noxema Classic works just as well as a preshave cream, and its less expensive. But I prefer Proraso scents for preshave.
