Pre Shave Oil

I recieved a rather lovely package from @Emma.BBA a couple of days ago containing some shave oil plus extras. I obviously feel duty bound to give my opinions...

However I am sorry to say that I simply couldn't resist using all products at once, and therefore can't yet seperate the benefits of the oil from all the other products, but I can say that they were nice!

The oil didn't clog the razor, and wasn't stuck to my sink. This is a very good start! However, the main difference to me so far is not with the product, but the ethos behind it. Most oils I have heard about say they soften the hair and aid the shave etc, but this BBA oils selling point is the benefits to the skin, not just the ease of shaving.

Whether it can do anything to improve my particular face is still up for debate, but so far I like the products. The oil looks good, but I'll report back once I use it with my normal products.

It has real high quality ingredients, and can also be used as a facial oil. One of the benefits of using our particular oil is the Anti Ageing properties. I mean none of us are getting any younger right?

Hi everyone,

Just thought it polite to update you all on my thoughts regarding the BBA oil.

I have used it a couple of times since my last post, and it has certainly improved on the issues I used to have with other pre shave oils. It is lighter than the other two I have tried and sinks into your skin very quickly, thus leaving alot less mess to clog your razor and cover your sink (though some still remains). It smells nice too, which is good.

So.... As far as per shave oils go, I like it, and it is far better than the others I've tried, BUT I'm still not entirely convinced it adds a great deal to my shave. Largely this is because I am lucky to have some great soaps, and I always try to shave after a bath/shower.

On a different note I am sure from all the info Emma has put on this sight that this oil must be doing wonderful this to my skin. With a face like mine, I'm not sure it's going to turn me into Brad Pitt, but the post shave feel is good.

I think I'll continue using this oil until it runs out at least, especially on those occasions where I can't shower first. Sometimes you only really appreciate something once you are used to it, and then you run out!

@Emma.BBA how does someone in the USA try your pre shave oil? I use pre shave oil frequently as I find that it helps reduce irritation although I have not found what I believe to be the best product yet? Do you ship to the US?

I was lucky to have Emma send me a bottle of shave oil with some other samples which was really nice of her and BBA. I currently use a combo of Razorock pre barba and bloom water and it works well for me.
I got set up for my shave and applied two drops of the BBA oil to my skin. It does smell lovely and went onto the skin well. I rubbed it well in and then applied my usual bloom water on top and began the shave. It became immediately apparent that after that everything I touched had oil on it.
The shave went well and I believe it helped the razor glide better on the skin but my brush, sink and razor had a film of oil on it and after rinsing so did my face.
I had to de grease my sink and razor with washing up liquid. If you are used to using oil it will be right up your street and probably a really good product. It does help glide but the trade off wasnt worth it for me. In the interests of getting as many as possible to try it and in the spirit of our community I PIF'ed it onwards and also the sample to two members.
I hope they do the same.

As I am new to the forum....I have only just seen this. I occasionally use an Oil. Somersets....because that is what I have. 2 drops well rubbed in ...on a wet face. Works well.

I use to buy the inexpensive PSO's found in stores. Now I make my own with either grapeseed or apricot kernel oil, with either lime or grapefruit EO and other EO's such as tea tree, calendula etc.

I will try sweet almond oil as the base next time.

I did at one time. Now I only use it when I have to shave twice a day (an unexpected evening engagement). Hence, I can't vote yes or no.

American crew shave oil. 4 drops for the whole face. I've tried many shave oils and this one stands out for me.

I remember when preshaves first came out. My thought then was 'why? have we all been doing it wrong for generations?' Shaving involves the removal of beard and through exfoliation and blade some epidermal material AKA skin. The time to condition is after this process of removal on the exposed cells. preshaves just make a feel good mess that must be largely scraped away too. It struck me as a gimmick to increase revenue then and still does.
