Nikon 17-55mm 2. 8 lens

I've been wanting to replace my kit lenses with something decent but only if I can find them used and in excellent condition.

I found this used Nikon 17-55mm 2. 8 lens in my local photo equipment shop and the manager sold it to me at a very special price because I was a new customer and he wants me to come back for more supplies.

It's a lovely lens and compared to the kit lens it's built like a tank. I'm also informed it's known as a pro lens because of the gold ring around the top. It also has many favourable reviews.

Don't expect anything spectacular ... Early days for me and I'm very much a beginner :scratchhead:

Very nice lens, I had the same one until my daughter found it a few years ago and dropped it! You will be pleased. The ED glass is special.

Thank you @Godfather
Just been having a play ... It's a very sweet lens and following your post I've been reading up on ED glass.

I'm now educated

Very sorry to hear about yours though. You must have been gutted.

I'm not sure if I should purchase a lens protector as I've been reading mixed reviews about them.

Gutted was an understatement! Always get a polarising filter to protect the lens. Saves on cleaning and any accidents which will happen. Recommend Hoya as the Nikon ones are silly money.

Thanks I've heard good things about Hoya and currently heavily discounted on Amazon for the pro version.

Going to place an order now. Unlike my other lenses the Nikon 17-55mm 2. 8 glass is nearly to the front of the frame so I wouldn't want to damage that.

I have hoya pro's on all my lenses. Not too worried about them acting as a bullet proof vest, but they are more like a condom, just to shield the crap hitting my actual lense, so easier to clean etc

would hate to have a quick clean and notice a bit of sand wrecking the actual lens itself!
