I get that blade dispensers are kind of handy but TBH I prefer a cardboard box and paper wrapping. I think single-use plastic is something we should try to move away from.

They are very handy when away from home for any length of time. When travelling there really is no safe place to dispose of used blades. These type of blade dispensers will store your used blades till they can safely be disposed of. It is possible to reuse this type of dispenser, at least it is for me.

I agree that we want to move away from single use plastics. OTH a reusable metal blade dispenser that also stores used blades might be an idea for a shaving accessory for travel. The original ones were metal before they switched to plastic ones.

I think the dispensers could fairly easily be made from cardboard, too, although it might require a slight change to the design. Then they wouldn't need paper wrapping either.
Having said that, a plastic case or at least wrapping would protect blades better against moisture.
Ideally, though, we would just go to a mum and pop shop on the corner for a top up with a metal dispenser of our own. Unlikely this is ever going to happen, but it would be nice.

They were originally designed to facilitate direct loading into Gillette TTO razors which is becoming a moot point due to three piece razors, certainly in forums anyway, becoming the dominant DE razor configuration again.

The later plastic Gillette dispensers are fairly straightforward to reload, metal ones less so.

I also have some interesting plastic dispensers that held industrial blades which which are loaded with a standard paper tuck of blades
