Murray Walker RIP

Northam Saint

Sad news, but a good innings. Saw him once at Goodwood Festival of Speed. He had obviously finished what ever he was doing and walking around in his own, passed shoulder to shoulder in a bridge over the track. Most might of stopped him for an autograph. I didn’t bother him, a man having a moment of peace and solitude away from all that goes with fame.

He was sitting in a cafe in North London I dropped in to on my way to a model railway exhibition back in the early 1990s. I just sad hello and thank you and left him to his snap. Anything else would have been bad manners. Loved his commentaries.

The voice of motorsport, it was never the same without him. I heard today he stopped commentating 20 years ago, hard to imagine. RIP Murray.

One of those rare breed of commentator who brought his personality to his work, he rose to fame working on scrambling on TV on saturday afternoons, he was a natural choice for Touring Car racing and F1 and almost anything with an engine.

Famous for his mistakes which didn't detract from his popularity in any shape or form.
