Actually feel like i am growing into this now, shaving today it felt just right and i actually managed to go atg and get a bbs shave with absolutely no irritation.
Added a few droplets of coconut oil to my soap, a drop of extra water, the lather was as smooth as butter.
Feel like i am finally learning, ordered a few new brushes to try, omega badger and bristle mix, semogue another boar, a simpsons pure badger special, mitchells woolfat and a cream i cant recall haha truefitt & hill i think, really looking forward to trying it all out.
After consideration i think i will give the silvertips a miss for a bit, im like the exfoliation of the rougher brushes.
Just want to say thank you to all forum members, very welcoming and a wealth of knowledge shared.

Really happy you found a good place in your process.

Wanted you to know that brushes don't exfoliate, even the rough ones. A friend visited his dermatologist and was advised as such.

What does exfoliate, doctor said, is the first pass of the razor.

The dermatologist warned against using an exfoliating product before shaving. It's double the exfoliation, and maybe harmful to the skin. I know you didn't say you used such a product, so this is more of a PSA.

I personally would challenge the dermatologist to prove that a brush cannot exfoliate, I don't see how they could. Anything abrasive passing over ones skin has the ability to dislodge skin cells. Main factor being an individual's skin and brush type (IMO).

It is also interesting to hear that one should not exfoliate before a shave. Surely this depends on the level of exfoliation and an individual's skin sensitivity as opposed to a definitive answer? Personally I exfoliate before a shave to remove any dead skin and dirt/oil particles. In my mind this allows for a cleaner contact between blade and skin.

In my view brushes are for building and spreading lather, if you really need to exfoliate prior to shaving, although I can't see why you would need to, then use a light exfoliating product. The pleasure of a Silvertip brush is something that's hard to explain until you use one, then you will know.
