I actually enjoy driving. First a bicycle and later motorized two wheelers followed by automobiles. They are a source of tinkering with something to get you somewhere. I do understand that many or most may not see it this way.
I bet this wonderful automated technology fails far less frequently than humans fail - today. Many humans shouldn’t even have a license. However, there’s still that 0.01% of time that a human knows what to do that the autonomous car doesn’t.Undoubtedly self driving cars will keep on improving. The day will come when the vast majority of car owners will use this feature all the time and another skill set is lost to humans through automation. What happens when this wonderful automated technology fails?

A bit of yes and no to that. Here you have to have driver training before even going for your road test and exam writing. then you are on graduated licencing with severe restrictions at first and gradually more liberal levels after approvals. On the face of it that should ensure well trained drivers in the long run.I bet this wonderful automated technology fails far less frequently than humans fail - today. That said, with growing use of this wonderful AI technology, one has to wonder about the need for humans at all in the future. Amazon just announced the layoff of 16,000 workers in favour of AI automation. Scary thought for the future.
