I guess that would depend on whether you use the lather as is or add water to it while you lather your face to get it where you want it. Either way it looks pretty healthy.

Just to throw my tuppence worth in, I tend to almost exclusively face lather when using soap but bowl lather when using cream. It works for me. Different methods, same result, same enjoyment.

When I started wet shaving, about 50 years ago, I learned from my Dad. He used a boar brush, Palmolive shave cream iirc and no bowl just face lathered. I never saw anyone use a bowl even in later years till I got on the shave forums some years back. Never had a badge brush either all those years never mind a scuttle. Just a set in my ways Neanderthal who has tried using a bowl, a scuttle and badger brushes and still in the back of my mind wonders a bit why I bothered with a bowl or scuttle. Badger brushes are very nice though but I still enjoy my well broke in Omega 10066 boar brushes.
