Dry hands

May sound a bit 'girlie' but since the hand washing routine has gone from sensible to the necessarily ridiculous, my poor old hands are getting really dry. My collection of Barts Balms and in particular the more 'oily' lotions have been coming to the rescue and are working wonders. May have to start purloining the wife's stuff if stocks get too low. I won't smell as good though.

I've had the same problem, get some aveeno body lotion, worked wonders for my hands.

I'm using up some very old (5 or 6 years) De Vergulde Hand aftershave balm; working on the theory that, if it's good enough for my visage, it's extra nice for the paws. I just hope that, at the end of this, I don't need to shave the bristles on my hands daily. We live in unpredictable times.

I've used vaseline on my dry hands for years as unlike all of the hand creams that I tried, it isn't stripped off when I wash my hands. I think that 'oily' is the right way to go.

Aveeno? Is that the specific hand cream or just the daily moisturising lotion? Looks like the panic buyers have been at the hand cream.

Yep as predicted we have a few at the Pharmacy they have been flying off the shelf. I recommend O'Keefes and flexitol hand balm. One option is to wear gloves and can put alcohol gel on them.

It's... alive!
I'd suggest also getting a soap with as short a list of ingredients as you can.
Waitrose glycerine soap is decent.
So is Dr. Bronner's liquid castille soap. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bronners-Organic-Citrus-Castile-Liquid/dp/B0017JVMT6/
This was possibly the gentlest liquid soap I'd tried so far (mostly based on sunflower oil):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N32WQ2C/ The smell takes some getting used to, but eases off after a while.
This was almost as good: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D8X6GTK/

As for something to help if the hands are getting dry anyway:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lucas-EP31207-Papaw-Ointment-75g/dp/B007HJJ9DG/ (you only need a very small amount)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0093LG2V8/ (takes a while to get absorbed).

If the hand balm's as good as his shaving soaps, could be worth a look

Thank you. I like to think it is. You only need to use a tiny bit, a little goes a long way. It’s a blend of butters and oils with a smidge if rapeseed wax for a coating.

A small amount of lanolin works wonders for my hands and try to use a good quality soap that won't strip all the natrual oils out of your skin. :) P.

Glycerin mixed with lemon juice helped me a lot, not sure why. It stings a lot though.

Another great choice is Cera Di Cupra Hand Cream. Not greasy and works wonders even in chapped hands like mine.

I have to wash my hands very often (requirement of the job). We use this stuff at work and works wonders. It has beeswax and a fairly short list of ingredients..
