Doris has been at it

Anyone else had a bit of damage from Storm Doris today?

Just got home from work and a fence panel in the front garden has been torn out. Nothing major and one of the benefits from renting is that it's the landlords problem :D. It does have the cable/internet wire running across it but no damage to that...whew!

However, round back the shed roof has blown off and everything inside has had a good soaking - mainly garden tools but the lawnmower might never recover. My shed so I can't get the landlord onto that!

And SWMBO left the bedroom window open and the blinds are on the mangled side and a couple of bottles of her smellies have been toppled and leaked - thankfully not a lot and onto a bit of none visible carpet down a gap between furniture. Might take some time to fumigate though! Just thankful it wasn't a bottle of "The Veg"

All said and done I've got off very lightly compared to many and have an excuse for a new (ie bigger) man-shed:woot:

Nope nothing on my part. A bunch of trees locally have gone.
The next door neighbours tiles have come off and possibly hit a car, which isn't there at the moment.

I'm on annual leave at the moment, so have been watching Doris have a hissy fit all over my gardens. She took two casualties, first being the paper recycling bin, second was a fence panel between front and back garden. Now, we have a dog, so I had to do something about the fence, so armed with big nails and a hammer, I ventured outside and repaired said panel. Only downside? I have concrete posts with slots so I had to raise the panel in the air in the middle of the storm...it was like a big sail, but needs must and I got it all done with only one smack of the thumb.

We have those currently. I feel your pain. some dear got killed over in Wolves and the Mrs sent me pictures of the garden bench being blown across the patio thanks to the waterproof cover acting like a sail. Apparently they had a power cut today for about an hour too. Down here the only drama was my hat sailing 40 yards across the carpark.

Nowhere near as bad as the last one, which I'm struggling to find the name of ... although I don't think it was named. Barbara was 23rd/24th Dec and Conor 25th/26th Dec. One of my neighbours was working at height removing the Council Christmas lights in Halifax, so it was after the new year ... he finished about 01:30 and around 02:00 the worst wind I've ever seen hit us!

Fences down, walls damaged, trees down ... the four neighbours who'd just had their gutters replaced found a tangled mess of seamless clattering over the roof. Our kitchen door is a stable door and the corners were visibly being blown open! I had to drill 'em and screw 'em shut!

Looking across our valley, I could pick a cloud on the far side and within seconds it was overhead - it was like timelapse film. Crazy!

No, Doris was a bit limp ... my repairs from that storm have held, though. Good! Good!

Be safe, folks.

As above. Further up in Leeds it's been a little windy and that's it. I was shocked to see some of the pictures on the TV when I got home.

Brrrrr, very cold in the house.

Most dangerous thing, was going for a slash in pure darkness :P

Here in south East London a large tree in our garden fell over. Quite impressive - luckily it didn't fall on the house and just barely damaged the garden fence.
I dread the cost of having the bastard removed though. Not sure what the insurance will have to say about acts of Doris

I've just found out that a big laburnum tree that used to be in my auntie's garden in Manchester is now in her neighbour's. Fortunately no-one hurt and only a fence damaged.
