Distractions

This word has been coming to mind often. One factor for living in the present has been to rid myself of those things that distract me so that I can focus on those things for which I am interested in pursuing. There are so many distractions that come in the form of sounds, words, mostly those things that I can see and hear. Yesterday I turned off the radio. I found I was better able to focus on what I am studying or reading. Even living in the city, sitting in the outside yesterday with the radio off, I experienced silence.

While I know it is prudent to be up on current events, I do not need to be updated hourly. Anyway, this is a practice I am trying out to see if it makes a difference.

I have never been able to read or study with a radio on with talking. Music I can sort of handle but prefer silence. Lately, silence is essential for me if I am trying to work on anything involving reading because focus has become an issue. Any distraction sends me off in a direction that only presents an obstacle to me absorbing anything.

Thank goodness, I'm profoundly deaf with a Cochlear Implant. I take off my hearing aid and enjoy the silent and peace, without all the BS distraction in the world that has gone completely BLOODY MAD!
