Grumpy old man
I came across this article in the local paper that gave me pause to think.

I have been guilty in the past of driving by an injured animal on the side of the highway. This was before cell phones were common and the tanker truck ahead of us hit a deer jumping across the road in the middle of the wide-open prairie. The tanker caught the deer's hindquarters, so you can imagine the injury. The hit pin balled the deer across the highway into the ditch. The tanker truck just kept going. My wife said we should stop but I said no as there was nothing we could do for the deer, and I did not even have anything to put the animal out of its misery. In retrospect it was a pretty callous thing to do as we could have at least comforted the deer as it died. My wife was right, we should have stopped.
