I was asked in another thread, "Bob, will this be the moment that Canada decouples from the monarchy and becomes a full republic?'.
As I said at the time, I don't know the answer and still don't. It did give me pause to contemplate the question though. Personally, I don't see how we would benefit in becoming a full republic exchanging one form of imperfect elected government for another. As it stands now, the UK has no say whatsoever in our internal and external governmental affairs. We are fully independent and would not become more so by turning into a republic. OTH we would loose a large and important physical connection to the rich history and traditions of our past by decoupling from the monarchy. You can guess which way I am leaning and that is only reinforced by what I see as the lunacy that is possible in a republic looking south of our border. Proving yet again in my mind that no form of democratic government is perfect or a panacea for all ills.
