PART 1
So, the first post is about how I went through a whole journey of trying different DE razors (≈100) just to find the one that suits me best.
It all started back in 2020. My first razor was an old Soviet one that my uncle gave me when I decided to switch from cartridges to traditional wet shaving.

I shaved with that little thing for about 3-4 months. It wasn’t perfect, but it did the job. I learned how to shave properly, cut myself for the first time (of course), but honestly, I still enjoyed the experience, especially using a shaving brush, shaving cream, and aftershave. It was a pleasure and a new world for me.

Then I discovered our Ukrainian wet shaving forum. And wow, that opened the floodgates. I had no idea there were so many razors out there: Muhle, Razorock, Fatip, vintage Gillette, GEM, and tons more.

Naturally, I wanted to upgrade my “golden oldie” to something more serious, like a Muhle R89. I ended up connecting with a shaving buddy who let me try out the Muhle Rocca R94. Man, what a razor. It felt super aggressive at the time, but I knew that’s what a proper razor was supposed to feel like.

A few months later, I was still trying to figure out what kind of razor I really wanted. And then surprise! On my birthday, another friend gifted me the Rocca R94. I was blown away.

But it still felt way too aggressive for me. I just couldn’t get used to shaving with it, and I kept nicking myself every time. So, I eventually put the Rocca aside and went looking for something milder.

That’s when I bought the Razorock Lupo Aluminum. And after the very first shave, I knew I had finally found the kind of razor I was looking for.
But..

PART 2

But… after half a year of shaving exclusively with Lupo, I decided to look for something that shaved like it but was made of stainless steel, because, well, stainless steel, you know?

I went through quite a list: Razorock Lupo .72, Gamechanger .84 and .68, Merkur 34C, Timeless Bronze, Rockwell 6S, Muhle R89, WCS Merica, WCS Winning Razor, Gillette Slim, Gillette King C, Colonial Razor, Gillette Super Speed, Henson Mild… and many more I’ve tried, but these are the ones that come to mind first.

Eventually, I found a razor that came pretty close to what I was looking for — Tatara Masamune. I bought it for a good price in black color with both closed and open combs for under 200 euros.
I still keep it in my rotation today. It’s a great razor, maybe a bit less efficient than the aluminum Lupo in some ways, but it shaves really well. I bought it as a birthday present for myself a few years ago, and I still like it a lot.

Also, I want to say that the WCS Winning razor was great too, maybe a bit heavy, but gave me a close shave with mild feelings on the skin.

I’d like to say my search ended there, but not so fast. I found a great DE razor, but what about SE?

Long time no see!

A few weeks ago, I was thinking about buying the new Rex Page razor. (P.S. Of course, I didn’t actually need another razor).
But man, $75 for an aluminum razor... wtf?! I know Henson made that price point feel “normal” for aluminum, but to me, it’s still too much. Razorock’s Lupo is a fairer benchmark for what an aluminum razor should cost.

Anyway, since I was already in the mood for a new razor, I started looking for something cool but inexpensive. And I found it. Honestly, I hadn’t checked Italian Barber or Razorock razors in a long time. I already knew Razorock makes solid stainless steel razors, but I forgot that the full stainless steel head + handle for $55. Couldn't say no.

So, I grabbed a Razorock Game Changer .76. I’ve owned the Game Changer .84 (sold it because of the hidden aggression) and the .68 (sold it because it just lacked efficiency). Now it’s time to see what the .76 gap brings me.

I thought I’d be posting here regularly, but things changed. The situation in my country hasn’t really felt right for enjoying our hobby. I’m hoping when the weather gets warmer, my mood lifts and the shaving obsession comes back.

For now, I just shave when needed and use what I have. Haven’t bought anything new in 2026. Well… okay, I’m waiting on an Omega Jade, and that’s it for now. I still check in on shaving news and SOTD photos from time to time.

Take care!

P.S. I sold a game changer. It didn’t match my expectations. Low efficiency and not that comfortable as I hoped.

Hey boys,
Shame on me, I was the guy asking for these Shaving Journal topics, and here I am not writing in them regularly! Either way, I still check in all the time to see what’s going on. Today, I wanted to share a few thoughts on some gear I picked up over the spring and summer.

Lambda Ares v2
Ever since I bought the Lambda Athena last spring, I’ve been totally in love with it. I couldn’t believe a razor could be so mild and comfortable while remaining so incredibly effective, Theo is a true genius!

Naturally, I decided I had to try the maestro's second creation, especially since I think the Ares looks even better than the Athena. Don't get me wrong, the Athena is beautiful, but the Ares is just on another level when it comes to razor design. As you all know, buying a razor from Lambda isn't exactly easy. Before signing up for the waitlist, I reached out to Theo directly to ask about the next batch. To my surprise, he got back to me a few days later with a purchase code, and I pulled the trigger immediately.

I’d read and heard rumors that the Ares was super aggressive, almost on par with the Mühle R41 but that couldn't be further from the truth. The Ares does have a tiny bit more blade feel during the shave, but it remains remarkably smooth and efficient. It shot straight into my top 3 DE razors almost overnight.

Shaving Brushes
In June, I picked up a Semogue Taj handle with the Mistura knot! I also own the Semogue Torga C5 Mistura and absolutely love it, so I decided to get essentially the same knot, but in the classic SOC-style handle.

Then, something incredible happened last week. I managed to buy a Rooney beehive brush directly from the personal collection of Mr. Lee Sabini himself. We had a quick chat, and based on our conversation, I honestly believe we might actually see Rooney brushes back on the market again someday!

Another interesting brush I picked up literally the day after buying the Rooney is a vintage Floris shaving brush. I don’t know anything about its history yet, so I actually reached out to Floris directly to see if they could share any details about it.

I can't say anything about how they perform just yet since they haven't arrived, but I'm really hoping they hold their own against modern brushes!

And one last thing. I've always loved Martin de Candre shaving soap, but lately, I think it's become my absolute number one. Since I almost never use synthetics anymore, MdC's hard soap works like an absolute charm with badgers!

See you soon.
