Are your shaves better-than-ever?

I have used a DE for many years. I started off with a Tech which I used for two years. This was the razor my father gave me when I first started shaving. When I retired I guess I had too much time on my hands and my two razors and two brushes multiplied until I now have 29 brushes and 31 DE, SE, and injectors. I won't count the number of soaps and creams I have. This year I said I would stop buying any more razors, brushes, soaps, and creams. So far, I have been successful - except for brushes; I have bought three within the past three months.

Here is what I have discovered. I get the best shaves from razors that are either mild or mid-aggressive and the worst shaves from aggressive razors. I get the same shaves whether I spend five minutes in pre-shave prep or 30 minutes. For me, technique means knowing the correct angle for the razor you are using and resisting the urge to press down.

While I agree that technique is king - it doesn’t:

1. Make up for a non protective soap (in my 4-pass shaves)
2. Create a luxurious face lathering experience
3. Provide healing after the shave
4. Provide a rigid or thicker shaving blade that works better on my neck
5. Seal in all that goodness like a great balm

The king can’t do everything - that’s why he has a queen, knights, squires, an army, etc.
