It has to be said, " ‘Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel". The intent of Samuel Johnson's statement was not against love of country but using patriotism for self-interest. The problem we face today is allowing ourselves to get caught up in movements and businesses whose intent is self-serving and whose mission is not supported by their outcomes.

I remember buying Rush Limbaugh's book, The Way Things Ough to Be in the 1990's and agreeing with everything he said. I didn't question it at all. Later I realized that many of the things he said put a limit on others. Still later I realized he didn't intend to do anything but complain, I stopped listening. The sad part is I was blind, as you say.

When I watch these videos, I now see and hear messages of what someone's concept of being a man and an American is, where empathy and understanding has little room to exist. Only raw power wins the day. It is a fake world. When this ideology comes into the home, it affects the man's ability to parent well or respect women.
