Soaps can be a very personal thing, given we all have different skin types. What I look for in a soap can subsequently be different to what another wants/needs. I prefer a strong scented soap, with excellent slickness and good cushion, that causes no irritation. I find that tallow based soaps offer this in abundance, however, it is not limited to these alone. So what are your top 5 shaving soaps?

    For me:
    1. P&B
    2. Tabac
    3. Stirling
    4. Caties Bubbles
    5. CRSW/ B&M/ Haslinger

Nice I did pass on a sandalwood based one at one point I think or sold it not sure. Was a good performer, vetiver and lavender sounds interesting, are they both clean or a dirty earthy/peppery type lavender & vetiver? I was recently surprised by EJ pomegranate and lime offering, another good soap.

oh, and still using Mike's... which for years, was the only soap I could use on my face, before I discovered the U.K offerings..

Don't think I can differentiate much between my favourites. Bullet rather than numbered list permissible? (Hadn't tried Tabac in fact. Now enabled, thank you very much, @Nishy -- at low cost though)
    • MdC
    • P&B
    • Jabonman/Eufros
    • MLS
    • B&M
(I could have just as well have listed Cold River, Stirling and Soapy Bathman. Edit: Oh, and my countrywoman's Fitjar, of course!)

=1. Tabac - Tallow, lather, full product range & scent
    =1. Speick - Ditto above
    3. Institut Karite - Shea butter, pretty scentless, kicks MdC in the balls at less than a third the price.

4 and 5 get a little bit wiggy now, the top 3 are the holy trinity so I will give the next 2 spots to recent fads of mine: Haslinger & PAA C&B.

    In no particular order -

    Beaver Woodwright
    Phoenix & Beau
    Saponificio Varesino
    The Tiki Bar Soap
    Wickham's

There are a few more that I could pick but that I haven't used enough times. I also have a few that are new that I haven't used yet, so this will change no doubt, (Barrister & Mann, Mystic Water, etc) These soaps have everything I am looking for, including fantastic scents.

I have used many but these are always in my rotation. I'll be seriously worried when I use up my P160:cry: ( Is there a 3-5 disliked soaps thread?)

    Figaro P160 Original
    Valobra stick Grated
    Safari
    FineAccoutrements American blend

All give a wonderful face feel after the shave but as old as it is nothing tops the feel of MWF. If you can't lather it you are doing something wrong.
