I've held pet insurance for my cat, a Devon Rex named Loki for 10 years, with the same insurer and never made a claim.

Yesterday Loki was hit by a car, the insurance company have agreed to pay for the emergency vet fee and the 'external' stitches he needed.

    However,

Loki also lost most of his teeth, his inscisors were still present, but clearly broken. What followed was me paying for the initial care amount, up front, just over 2k, which I can get back minus the excess.

Only to be told by my insurer that we 'don't cover dental'

Thanks for all the support guys!

    Loki says thanks!!

That's terrible in so many ways - for your cat as well as the monetary hit.
    Will he be ok?

    That is fekkin scandalous...
We have pet Insurance on our Lab, and if it came to that we would have no choice but to have him put to sleep - as sad as that would be.
I hope Loki makes a full recovery...

How horrible! Fingers crossed for a good recovery. Give him lots and lots of love - he's a survivor.

Thats appalling , another bit of small print to check. You pay a fortune to insure pets and they try to wriggle out of any payment they can.
I hope all works out well for Loki and he makes a full recovery mate !!

Strange you should mention this BigBoar, similar story with our cat recently. No dental cover, she had an abscess and 4 rotten teeth as well as a an issue with her nasal cavity. Basically our policy doesn't have dental cover either, it would have cost a fortune (MediVet quoted 2 days in hospital), but very lucky that my brother is a vet, so Cassie was taken to Newcastle, had surgery and is back and well now. From what i've heard dental care was removed from most policies over the years.
