Here's the second of the relatively inexpensive tallow based soap samples kindly gifted by @Bizzyberry.

Prior to receiving this I'd never heard of Monsavon Bol à Raser. It's a soft type croap and the boss knot synthetic whipped up a great creamy lather with a decent amount of slickness. The scent is pleasantly fresh and not overpowering.

Yeah.... if I could find a UK supplier I'd buy this. So far the only options I've found is where the shipping costs more than the soap! Definitely one for the wish list.:)

Are the Manchurians more bulbous in shape than their super and best counterparts? That one seems virtually circular! I have never ventured into chubbies from Simpsons, but could see one in my future.
Halvor, in my experience, the smaller knotted Manchurians such as Duke 3, 58's, tend to be almost perfect fans. The more dense chubbies are usually hybrid in shape, although they can lean a little more in either direction.

You made me curious, so I had to look it up. This one isn't half bad? Postage is less than the cost of the soap at least. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322334339491

Thanks! But have a look at OJ's brush. Wouldn't you call that pure bulb even?

I have not tried best or super from simpson's, but I do have a Duke3 Manchurian and it's a fan knot, a superb knot!! The chubbies I've got is more bulbes and some more backbone and scrub..... What I have been reading is that chubby2's is more scratchier than chubby3's... What are you looking for my norwegian friend?

I would say leaning more to bulb than hybrid, yes. It reminds me of the very early Manchurian knots that Simpson made. Not a problem so long as the loft is adequate to compensate.Tougher Manchurian hair does not splay as much as the 2-Band SiLVERTiP hair which are bulbous, intentionally, to increase backbone.

Edit.....to see a range of knot shapes these chubbies come in, take a look at Ben's CH3 line-up on TSN in the Collections, Display & Storage Forum, under title "Simpson Chubby Manchurians" on page 2.

That would be a question for 2018, I'm afraid. Or at least not until I have re-lost my senses again

Pre Shave: Hot Shower, Bulldog Face Wash and Proraso Red
Razor: Fatip Piccolo head on iKon OSS handle
Blade: Ladas Super Stainless (#1)
Brush: Semogue 610
Soap: Monsavon bol à raser
Post: Alum Block, Cold water and Thayers unscented
AS: Lucido

Decided to try the Fatip Piccolo head on an iKon OSS handle, really pleased with the result, thanks @Acer89 for the recommendation. It definitely shaves closer with that extra weight but still works really well.

First time using the Ladas Super Stainless, it seemed to be a good match, I find most blades work well in the Fatip for me, I have tried some blades in another razor first then switched to the Fatip and the results are almost always better.

Very nice results. Wouldn't normally use the pre-shave oil with Ingram but my face was pretty raw and chafed after my walk this morning. Dashed cold wind, what, what!
